Frequently Asked Questions

  • Whilst occasionally teaching workshops within Italy as well as abroad, I am mostly offering private lessons in my personal studio in the historic city centre of Florence. If you are interested in receiving private instruction, feel free to contact me directly. For further information on upcoming workshops and study opportunities, please check out my event calendar or simply send me an email and sign up to my mailing list to always be the very first to hear about new events and study opportunities!

  • It would be my pleasure to paint your portrait. Usually my portraits are exactly or just under life-size oil paintings on Dutch or Belgian linen or alternatively slightly smaller drawings in pencil or charcoal on hand-prepared paper. If you happen to live a busy lifestyle, I would be willing to work from photographic reference material instead of following the more traditional approach, which is to paint directly from life. In this case we would take a series of reference photographs either at my studio or directly at your home. If neither is possible I am willing to work from photographic reference material provided by you, though heavily depending on its quality and the visual information it provides.

Once the photographic reference material has been gathered, we will decide about the clothing, the background, the potential inclusion of pets etc. and eventually go through the photographs together to select the ones that are the most suitable for the commission.

It is important to me to include you in the creation of your portrait as much as possible, so I am happy to always keep you up-to-date throughout the process. When the portrait is nearing completion, I will send you a photograph of the work and will add the finishing touches, before the artwork will eventually be varnished and shipped out.

If you are interested in commissioning a painting or drawing, I would be delighted to receive an email inquiry from you.

  • The price depends on various factors, such as the medium, the dimensions and the subject matter (i.e. portrait, still life or landscape). Generally, drawings cost several hundred euros and into the lower thousands, while paintings are several thousand euros. Please feel free to send me an email with your ideas and requests and we will negotiate a fair price.

  • Oftentimes my paintings are already framed, but if you happen to choose one that is not, I would be happy to assist you in finding the perfect frame for your painting or drawing at one of the local framers here in the heart of Florence. Unless the artwork is over-sized, the addition of a frame will make the shipment of the artwork no more complicated than without it.

  • No matter if commissioned painting or personal work of mine, all paintings and drawings are shipped safely to your home in custom-built wooden boxes or portfolios. Larger paintings might be delivered carefully rolled up in a sturdy tube and would have to be remounted on stretcher bars by a professional upon arrival. The price depends entirely on the dimensions of the artwork and its destination. Once I have received all required dates from you (name, home address, email, phone number), the shipping process usually takes around 5-7 business days within the European Union, internationally it will always take longer due to Italy’s Belle Arti regulations.

  • Indeed, every sold artwork of mine comes with a hand-signed certificate of authenticity, enabling the piece to hold its value over time.
